Harris the Hare
P1 of St Michael's Primary School went to Dumbarton Library recently to see the launch of the new 'Harris the Hare' Library Cards.

Harris

Councillor May Smillie (Spokesperson for Educational Services) spoke to the children who were then entertained by the Young People's Library Services Team reading the stories of Catherine Rayner, who generously donated the design of the new Library Card. The Case of the London Dragonfish by Joan Lennon
The Case of the London Dragonfish

A witty, warm-hearted detective novel for set in Victorian times. Slightly Jones is a girl Sherlock Holmes, surrounded by a motley crew of lodgers under the watchful eye of Granny Tonic. Who isn't actually a Granny. The historical detail is spot on - the theft under detection is from the then recently built Natural History Museum in London - a brilliant setting.

The Blackhope Enigma by Teresa Flavin
The Blackhope Enigma

"Soranzo is out for your blood, Fausto Corvo."

The candles in the astrologer's study flickered as he spoke, sending light dancing over a table covered with star charts and calculations.

"I know, Vito," said the man with the hooked nose and dark eyes. "You are the third friend to warn me."

"I fear for your safety, Fausto..."

Crackin' Crits
Maggi Gibson, Barry Hutchinson and Allan Burnett

Barry Hutchinson

West Dunbartonshire Libraries exciting project, Crackin’ Crits returned this in October with fabulous children’s author and poet, Maggi Gibson, coming to Gavinburn Library to meet primary 6 pupils from Gavinburn primary school.

It continues with the fantastic nonfiction writer Allan Burnett and brilliant horror writer Barry Hutchison.

The project involves two sessions with an author in the school’s local Library. In the first session the class listen to the author talking about their craft and what it’s like to be a writer. The author then returns a week later after the children have read the author’s books and researched them on the internet. The children also spend time putting together a list of interview questions that they ask the authors. This is all filmed and made into a DVD for the schools. The children then write a short criticism of the project which will be put up on LibraryOnline.
