Our smallest library has just three PCs available, while our largest has fifteen on offer. We're currently half way through a complete hardware-refresh, which means we have shiny new Lenovo PCs in most of our libraries. Our supplier has recently changed, so we're about to replace the rest with even shinier new Hewlett Packard (HP) PCs. All of our PCs are running Windows XP with Microsoft Office (version 2007 on all new machines, and version 2002 (XP) on our older machines).
Broadband Internet connections are provided in all of our libraries with a minimum 2Mb bandwidth, but some are as high as 12Mb to make sure you have high-speed access to the latest multimedia rich websites. We upgraded almost half our connections during 2009/10 and are planning further enhancements for our slowest remaining connections.
All libraries have full-colour printing available (charges apply), and A4 scanning facilities too. Our new PCs don't have floppy disk drives, so we sell and lend USB memory sticks to our members, as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs.
WiFi connections are being installed in four libraries - Balloch, Clydebank, Dalmuir and Dumbarton - watch this space for announcements about our launch!
We offer a pool of assistive hardware for use, and a range of assistive software too. See our 'Accessibility' section for details.
